S:BAHN: Queen of Diamonds (Polaks) — I remember seeing S:Bahn back in Melbourne in the mid-1990s, I think. Around then. They were pretty good! A post-punk guitar band sound as interpreted through post-hardcore after grunge had finally washed out. They’re back after twenty years with a new album, and a scorched-earth policy on old stuff (though it’s all on the Bandcamp) — but if you liked them then, you’ll like them now. Good songs, and especially the rhythm. The drum style may be my favourite part. But it’s all a rhythm instrument, dry and direct. Above: “Sync or Swim”, “Exhaustion”.
