- Andrew Hickey on the CD reissue of The Beatles’ Live at the Hollywood Bowl. The one official EMI-released Beatles record so useless it had never been reissued … until Giles Martin (son of George) cleaned up the tapes and revealed a good live album. Still rough, but now useful and showing just how rocking they could be. Martin made the band louder than the screaming! (Spotify preview.)

- Freddie Mercury’s school bandmates speak! The Hectics, a ’50s cover band, formed when he was twelve. “Actually, we started the band mainly to impress the girls. We certainly were not musicians.
