Synthetic nostalgia: Punk band Dead Boys plans album with AI Stiv Bators, current vocalist quits in disgust.

Dead Boys vocalist Stiv Bators died in 1990, but the rest of the band has reunited several times since. The current version formed in 2017, with original members Cheetah Chrome and Johnny Blitz, and still play the nostalgia circuit.

This lineup is no more — current vocalist Jake Hout quit on Monday over plans for a new album with AI-synthesized Stiv Bators vocals as it was just too “disrespectful.”

Cleopatra Records seems to have proposed the AI-vocal album, which is an extremely Cleopatra sort of move. Chrome is all for a buck, though.

The story is over at Pivot to AI.
